Puppy Patrol...

I was having coffee with a friend in Victoria on Tuesday when Barb called to tell me that she couldn't find our VERY PREGNANT dog when she got home from work. After about 5 minutes of looking around and calling for her she heard some whining from under our deck. Zoe had rooted out some space among the rocks to deliver her litter. As we were on the phone the total went from 2 to 4 and over the next hour she had 8. One succumbed to the cold so there are only 7 in our house today. She had 4 yellow and 3 black puppies.

This is a classic case of Lady and the Tramp as the father wooed her away from us while we were out for a walk in the woods. By the time we caught up to them it was too late, he had made his mark (so to speak...) and it was a matter of waiting and watching. He isn't much to look at, but she's a beautiful dog and I'm hoping that her "Lab genes" have overpowered his gene pool.

I never cease to be amazed at the wonder of nature. Zoe has never seen a litter apart from her own and yet has managed to figure out nursing, protecting, caring and cleaning her offspring. It reminds me that if God is concerned enough about her puppies to provide them with a mother who will care for them, how much more will he care for us who are of much more value to him.

Speaking of value.... I know some puppies who will need a good home in about 6 weeks and they will go for cheap!! So .... if you're looking for a dog let me know.

We tried to keep Zoe's pregnancy quiet because she's an unwed mother...

Louise, it should be noted that both Sonya and Danica are mothers to girls. You on the other hand have a TEAM of boys. Everybody knows that boys need a dog and a dog needs a boy. If they are anything like their mother, Miles might even be able to contract them out to dig gravesites for new burials. Of course we wouldn't want them to be digging up old sites...

O look Ethan, Tucker brought home a femur!! Definitely NOT GOOD!!

What worked for me.......Once we had a litter of puppies to unload. So I took them to Tillicum Shop 'n Shop and tried to sell them.....not takers...Then a little boy came by with a kitten. He admired the puppies so I gave him one (I don't know who his parents were, never saw them) Then some girls came by and thought the puppies were adorable so they each got one. With all the puppies given away I hurried home. End of problem. However that might not work for you...too many people know you. Good luck!

We have piano students coming into our house every day so we've got an excellent market at our doorstep.

It looks like we may lose the "runt" as he's not feeding anymore, so Britt is learning all about life and death at the moment. Plenty of tears and sadness at the moment.
